About The Group
Quite a versatile group that performed on the Renfro Valley Barn Dance. Guy was a native Kentucky mountain guy and was said to be one of the few really good barn dance fiddlers and was the baritone in the trio singing. Jerry was a soloist and guitarist and from Louisiana. Roland was a native of Renfro Valley no less and sang as tenor. He also played quite a few parts in the Monday night broadcasts from the Redbud Schoolhouse.
And they lived their group's name of Mountain Rangers. For if you were visiting Renfro Valley, you might run into them to warn you to be careful with your cigarettes or camp fires - they were supposed to be on alert for the possibility of forest fires. Roland and Jerry also did duty in the wood-working shop and Guy would help folks out with their travel plans, helping them with their maps and such.
