About The Artist

Ambrose Gaines Stuart was born in August 1853 in Morristown, TN to parents Caswell Cobb and Maria Martin Worley Stuart. His mother was born on May 2, 1830 in Athens, TN; she passed away at the age of 81 on January 9, 1912. ... His father passed away in 1875.

He married Sallie Nelson on December 13, 1877. His wife passed away at the age of 37 in 1892, leavnig Ambrose a widower. Their children were Alex Nelson, Ambrose Gaines, Ben Renfro and George Elliot Stuart.
