Suwanee River Jamboree
WNER
Live Oak, FL

Suwanee River Jamboree

We first found a mention of this Saturday night show in an old 1956 magazine. It aired over WNER out of Live Oak, Florida, just about halfway between Tallahassee and Jacksonville. The show was said to have been heard over 15 other stations at the time.

A 1957 article mentions the show was the largest and oldest of the barn-dance shows in the state of Florida at the time.

And of course you knew that the Suwannee River is the river made famous in Stephen Foster's song?

The article mentions some of the cast members, one of which we're sure you will recognize.

  • Jim and Jesse McReynolds and the Virginia Boys
  • H.M. and Sandy Flowers
  • Cousin Clair Parker
  • J.T. Pollards and the Sundown Drifters
  • Towna and Country Playboys
