Dave Rowland of country group Dave & Sugar has passed away after
suffering a stroke. He was 74 years old.
As lead singer of Dave & Sugar, Rowland racked up many hits over his career.
Dave & Sugar charted 16 tracks on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart
between 1975 and 1981, including three No. 1s: "The Door Is Always Open," "Tear Time" and "Golden Years."
The group was known for its pop-styled blend of male and female voices, and was sometimes referred to as
country's ABBA. Rowland later kicked off his solo career in 1982.
He is survived by his wife, Terri Rowland. In lieu of flowers, Rowland's family welcomes
fan donations to the Monroe Carrell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville.
