What Charlie Mercer of Mercer Brothers Duo Dies at 89

Charles "Charlie" D. Mercer, 89, passed away on Thursday, January 02, 2014. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at First Evangelical Church. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Long officiating. The family will meet friends on Sunday, January 5 from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the church.

Mr. Mercer was born in Metter, GA to the late Johnny and Cora Lee Mercer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva B. Mercer.

He was a member of First Evangelical Church and was retired from Robins Air Force Base.

He and his late brother, Wallace, were known as the Mercer Brothers, and they performed with the Louisiana Hayride and played at the Grand Ole Opry. They were inducted into the Georgia Country Music Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Sharon (Wayne) Williamson of Washington, GA, Betsy Belflower of Macon, Margaret Mercer of Macon;daughter-in-law, Elaine Mason and grandaughter, Amy (Cory) Hunt and great grandchildren, Taylor and Ashtyn, and nieces and nephews, Matt (Alison) Williamson, Meredith Williamson, Janice (Mike) Bloodworth, Gary (Susan) Mercer, Donna (Bruce) Bergy, Delores Worley and Kathy (George) Loven.
