Country music legend Merle Haggard will return to Modesto for a special
show April 4 at the Gallo Center for the Arts.
The singer of "Okie From Muskogee," "The Fightin' Side of Me" and "Mama Tried" has
amassed some 40 No. 1 country hits in his more than 40-year career.
The Bakersfield native also has Northern San Joaquin Valley roots. As a boy, he
spent summers in Hughson working for his aunt and uncle. He last played Modesto
in February 2004 at the State Theatre.
The Country Music Hall of Fame inductee is also a Grammy winner with 19 Academy
of Country Music Awards and six Country Music Association Awards. The
Gallo Center show will include his band, the Strangers, and begin at 8 p.m.
