Mrs. Hazel Key Cole, 93, of 108 Golden Circle S.W., Calhoun died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at a Rome hospital.

She was born in Gilmer County on Nov. 28, 1910, daughter of the late Luther B. and Lela Watkins Key, and had spent most of her life in Rome, moving to Calhoun 10 years ago.

She attended Philadelphia Baptist Church in Calhoun but was a member of Cherry Log Baptist Church in Fannin County.

She and her husband, Grady, were well-known singers, starting a singing career in 1929 on Rome radio station WRGA.

Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Jack O. Cole of Calhoun and Billy L. Cole of Adairsville; three brothers, Roy and Buster L. Key, both of Marietta, and Harold Key of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Ruth Coleman of Columbus; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be Saturday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. from Cherry Log Baptist Church in Blue Ridge, with the Revs. Bill McGill and Jack Cole officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at Thomas Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5. On Saturday, the body will be carried to the church to lie in state from noon to 2 p.m. Pallbearers will be Michael Cole, Dan Schwanbeck, Roger Robertson, Dennis Key, Larry Cole, Danny Key, and Jeremy Schwanbeck.

Thomas Funeral Home of Calhoun is in charge of arrangements.
