Nashville, TN - The Americana Music Association has announced the nominees for the 2nd annual Americana Awards, to be held on September 19th during the annual Americana Conference. The Americana Award Show was launched in 2002 and was created to honor both merit and achievement within the Americana genre.
Nominees for the 2003 Americana Awards are:

In addition, five lifetime achievement awards for significant individual
contributions will be given out during the show. Last year's honorees
included Emmylou Harris, T-Bone Burnett, Billy Joe Shaver and Doug Sahm.
Johnny Cash was also awarded the 'Spirit of Americana' Free Speech Award,
which was presented by the AMA in conjunction with the First Amendment
Center.
The show will last approximately 90 -120 minutes and is
only open to registrants of the 2003 Americana Conference. Official
ballots will go out on August 1st, and the voting period ends
August 26th. Eligible voting members of the Americana Music
Association determine the winners of the above categories. The
trade association has grown to nearly 1000 members since its
launch in October of 1999.
Confirmed for performances at the 2003 show are Allison Moorer,
Kathleen Edwards, Ricky Skaggs and Rodney Crowell. Presenters and additional
performers will be announced in the coming weeks. Johnny and June Carter
Cash's performance at the inaugural 2002 Awards Show highlighted last
year's show, which also featured performances by Gillian Welch,
Buddy & Julie Miller, Jason Ringenberg, and an all-star jam featuring
Emmylou Harris, Jim Lauderdale, Miller, Welch and others.
The 2003 Americana Awards show is sponsored by Gibson/Baldwin, BMI,
Welk Music Group, and the First Amendment Center.
