About the Group About The Group Matt Pelkonen mentioned in a 1946 article that the group was appearing over the famed WOWO Hoosier Hop that originated in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The group told Matt that one of their most requested tunes was "Choc'late Ice Cream Cone". We found a brief mention of this group in a 1946 article, indicating that they were entertaining the radio audiences of WFIN out of Findlay, Ohio, presumably during the week, twice a day at 8:30am and 2:30pm. Late in 1946, Clair L. Meekins was said to have joined the group according to Mary Jane Shurtz. Clair had his own act at one time, but had to disband it during World War II as gas rationing affected the ability to do personal appearances. The group appeared to stay at WFIN a few years. In 1949, Mickie Steph LaRue reported she had heard from them. The group told her that the group then included Dottie Low, Darl Fox, the Paulding County Kid in addition to Al Pettit and Grandpap Smith. Their show aired at 10:30am and 4:15pm.
