The Hillbilly Rebels

About The Group

This foursome was playing over WKLY out of Hartwell, Georgia long about 1954 and some. The group was actually made up of two sets of brothers and were said to be quite 'colorful'. Between them, they played a couple of guitars, fiddle and steel guitar, though no mention is made of who played which instrument.

Their leader was Ray Fleming who had been associated with WKLY they said since about 1952. Before that Ray had worked over at WRFC in Athens, Georgia.

The entire act had U.S. Navy service terms from two to ten years between them all. At the time of the article about them, Cliff Fleming and Rollen Ayers were serving their country aboard the U.S.S. Midway. Ray and Eddie continued the act though and were doing a 30-minute show each day over WKLY.
