About The Group The Murray Sisters began a career in radio entertainment in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They achieved some fame appearing on the various barn dance road shows in places like Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Chicago and Shenandoah, Iowa. Later on about 1936 or so, the Newman Brothers, Elmer and Pete, liked what they saw and asked them to help them form the "Sleepy Hollow Ranch Gang". Now, they must have more than liked what they saw or maybe had other ideas when they invited the girls to join them. Might be because Julie married Elmer and Sophie married Pete in 1937. They continued to be billed as the Murray Sisters even though they were a part of the Sleepy Hollow Ranch Gang. As a featured part of the Sleepy Hollow Ranch Gang, they were heard on their recordings for Majestic Records. They were also a part of the WFIL Haylof Hoedown show out of Philadelphia's Town Hall each Saturday night at 10:30pm, giving them national recognition. Timeline and Trivia Notes Group members
