About the Disc Jockey / Emcee
Back in the late 1940's WAPI in Birmingham, Alabama had a show
called the "Yawn Patrol" that was hosted by Joe Rumore. He had a
cheery way of signing on 'Hell-o there - this is Joe Rumore'. They said
that was the signal for every housewife within listening distance to
drop everything and just listen to the radio for an hour of "everything
in radio". And Joe did get piles of letters, and many of them were marked
personal.
