About The Disc Jockey / Emcee

Hi Roberts joined KWKH and the Louisiana Hayride in April of 1950, about the same time Slim Whitman and Webb Pierce came on board. Hi signed on to replace departing announcer Ray Bartlett. Hi and Frank Page became assistant producers of the Hayride show at that time, sharing stage duties with producer Horace Logan.

Hi was a popular announcer with KWKH who was particularly known for imitating cartoon characters as he read the Sunday comics over the air. Hi departed KWKH in the mid-fifties and was replaced by announcer Norm Bale.
