About The Artist Larry Lane was born Larry Oas in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He started to learn the guitar when he was just nine years old and kept up his playing. From a 1954 article, we found that in October of 1947, he began to work for radio station WLOL (a Mutual network station) in Minneapolis. While at WLOL for nearly three years, he would sing and also do emcee work. In 1950, he was called into military service. Upon finishing basic training, he began to work with the Red Cross, entertaining the troops and eventually going overseas. He served 19 months as an entertainment specialist in Japan and Korea and did shows with such reknowned celebrities as Jack Benny, Danny Kaye and Monica Lewis. When he got out of the service, he joined the staff of radio station KFGO in Fargo, North Dakota where they wrote he had up to as many as 21 shows a week. During those shows, he would do the emcee chores, sing and play records for the listeners. Credits & Sources
