About The Artist

An old WIBW (Topeka, Kansas) folio called them a "far-famed musical aggregation". Was their music or their mode of dress that captured the fans attention?

A word or two about some of the band members. Roy Carlson was known to WIBW listeners as Dude Hank. He was married to Miss Maudie. He was also quite a musical arranger at the station as well. Billy Baucom played a host of roles including tap dancer, salesman for the station, trap-drummer, announcer or the black-faced comedian, "Cipher". Kasper Malone played a variety of instruments including clarinet, trumpet, bass fiddle, flute and melophone. He was also comedian - "...hard to tie down to a real serious five minutes." Hal Bolan studied music for six years, travelled with dance bands for three and was only 24 when he came to WIBW.

You can read more about some of the folks of WIBW elsewhere on the site.
