About The Artist Slim Le Roy was a native of Belmont, Illinois. The family later moved to southern Indiana. Slim started his career off by auditioning for several talent shows and earned a spot in the traveling units. That got him work with many Western bands in the Mid-West and California as well as gigs on radio stations in Illinois, Oklahoma, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas. He took a break in his career as many did for World War II, serving in Europe. When he got his discharge, he moved to New Jersey and later married the gal he met while in the service. He opened up a luncheonette but still worked on his music, performing there on Saturday nights. He eventually gave up the luncheonette to give his music more of an effort. He organized a new band, the Cactus Riders and Smokey Warren was his manager then. By 1952, he was being featured on a weekly half hour radio broadcast that aired over WCTC in New Brunswick, New Jersey. They were doing regular personal appearances in Metuchen, New Jersey.
