About The Artist

Her real name was Leona Sue Frock; she was a native of Abbottstown, Pennsylvania and later her family moved to Hanover, PA. She first started performing over radio staion WFMD in Frederick, Maryland as a piano player. About a year and a half later, her career saw her playing accordion with a group called "The South Mountain Rangers", who later went to radio station WCHS out of Charleston, West Virginia, as did Margie Lee.

While she was at WCHS, she also made a few appearances with Cowboy Jack Hunt and his Rhythm Ranch hands. From WCHS, Margie Lee went to WMMN in Fairmont, West Virginia where she hooked up with Buddy Starcher and his All Star Roundup. That is where she also picked up the "Margie Lee" name.

Her career then saw her move to WHIS Bluefield, West Virginia and Cowboy Jack Hunt once again. Later, she spent time as part of Cousin Wilbur and his Tennessee Mountaineers, who were former stars of the Grand Ole Opry out of Nashville, Tennessee.

In early 1947, her career saw her on a daily show on WLOG in Logan, West Virginia at noon.
