About The Artist

Lonesome Valley Sally was her stage name; her real name was Alexandra Kaspura. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was a part of Shorty Fincher and his Cotton Pickers group for a time when they were on the WWVA Original Jamboree out of Wheeling, West Virginia.

She said she started her radio work in 1934 at a Pittsburgh radio station and it was there she met Shorty Fincher and his group. As it so happens sometimes, Shorty had a vacancy in the act and she was signed up.

She mentioned that they traveled through the southern states for over three years and had a hobby of collecting souvenirs from those travels.

In 1937, she said she spent six months with a 'dramatic road show' and enjoyed the experience.
