About The Artist By 1955, this gal was celebrating her fourth year at radio station KWSH out of Seminole, Oklahoma, yet she was only twelve years old at the time. On June 3, 1950, Her stint started with a fifteen-minute radio show that ran from 10:30am to 10:45am on Saturday mornings and she was only eight years old then. She sang, she played the accordion, she was the emcee, read the cards and letters she got and made the special announcements. She did it all. They said she started singing before she could walk, but had to wait until she was all of four and a half years old to start taking lessons on the accordion. She made her first radio appearance when she was five years old at the Palace Theatre on station WRR in Dallas, Texas. After that, she appeared on some 20 other stations before becoming a mainstay at KWSH. By the time she was eight years old, she had already appeared on radio stations in Dallas, Texas, Knoxville, Tennessee and Seminole, Oklahoma. In 1951, she had a 15 minute program Saturday mornings over KSMI in Seminole from 10:30am to 10:45am. She made television guest appearances in cities such as Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Fort Smith, Arkansas. She also starred on the KWSH "Saturday Night Hoedown" show each week that aired from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. That show had an emcee by the name of Jay Harmon and had Odis Price playing the guitar among others. In 1954, one of her big career thrills was appearing on Roy Acuff's show out of Dunbar Cave in the summer and having the show broadcast over WSM in Nashville. Credits & Sources
