Henry Burr
Born:  January 15, 1882
Died:  April 6, 1941
WLS National Barn Dance

About The Artist

Mr. Burr was 'making phonograph records back in the days of little wax cylinders.' He was the deal of ballad singers and sold millions of records. Was said to have been singing years and years before radio even began and had made more recordings than any other singer.

Joined the staff of WLS late in 1934 and was known to sing the songs of home and fireside with a great deal of feeling.

In the 1941 WLS Family Album they said he had been singing for 30 years, back in 1911 or so. He once toured the country with his own troup, Eight Popular Victor Artists. Two of his recordings, "Goodnight Little Girl, Goodnight" and "Old Gray Bonnet" were said to have sold nearly 3,000,000 copies each from coast to coast.

Had a great voice that made listeners think, "That's just the way I'd like to sing!" They call it singing from the heart. Once noted that he still got 'mike fright' whenever he sang on a broadcast.
