About The Artist This native of Nora Springs, Iowa was born Floyde Thomas Huffstettler, but the folks listening to KCHA in Charles City, Iowa along about 1955 knew him as Yodelin' Tommy Floyd. He took the last name of "Floyd" because he lived in Floyd County, Iowa. Tommy's story goes that he learned how to yodel before he even learned the guitar and it wasn't too long before the local folks started asking him to perform at the local functions. In 1953, he won a talent contest held by radio station KGLO out of Mason City, Iowa. That led to his own show for time. He was a television pioneer in Mason City when KGLO-TV came on the air. He was on the Triangle Three Ranch show when it premiered. That show was on each day from 5 to 6pm. They wrote his theme song was "The Happy Cowboy". Before he got to KCHA, he was appearing on stations such as KRIB and KGLO out of Mason City, Iowa. While on KCHA, he had a two-hour show where as a disc jockey, he also sang songs in between records.
