Dr. Joe Price was born May 9, 1927, in Big Sandy, TX. Joe passed away September 30, 2023, in Rockwall, TX. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 76 years, Mary Fielding Price, son Timothy Price and wife Diana Price, sister Laura Vaughn, granddaughter Jennifer Aucoin, grandsons Christopher Price, Adrian Price, Jason L Price, eight great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild. Joe was preceded in death by his father Thomas Arthur Price and mother Mamie Stegall Price, his eldest son Andy, sisters Marie and Marguerite, brothers John, Tom, Jesse, and three infant siblings.

Joe left the farm fields of East Texas and joined the United States Coast Guard at age 17, serving on the US Navy ship USS Gen. William Weigel for the duration of his WWII military service.

Upon his discharge after the war Joe pursued a music career as a singer and songwriter, recording for Starday Records and performing regularly on the Saturday Night Shindig, The Big D Jamboree, weekly radio shows on WFAA Radio in Dallas, and many local venues across Texas.

In 1952, Joe accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. After receiving God’s call to the ministry, Joe received his Bachelor of Theology degree from Homestead College of Bible, Master of Christian Education degree from Patriot Bible Institute, and his Doctor of Divinity degree from Homestead as well. Joe went on to earn doctorate degrees in Theology and Philosophy. Joe was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1960 and was called to pastor the First Baptist Church in Thomasville, MO. Dr. Price pastored seven churches over his 60+ years in the ministry.

In the early 1970’s Joe began writing, producing and recording Country Gospel music, and over the next 40 years he recorded more than a dozen albums. He founded the TIMA Records label and produced many Country Gospel albums, including several compilation albums to assist and promote new artists in the field of Country Gospel Music. To quote one of Joe Price’s songs, “It started in a honky-tonk in Texas, but it ended at the old rugged cross.”
