Arlene May "Arlee" Wetherbee Johnson Passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. She was 87 years old.

Arlee was born to James and Effie Wetherbee in Oelwein, IA on September 30, 1919 and was the youngest of five children. She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jimmy" Johnson, and three brothers, Delbert, Leslie and Glen Wetherbee.

She is survived by two children, Bonnie L. Gerdts of Camby, IN and Thomas L. Johnson of Plainfield, IN; a brother, Richard Wetherbee of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren.

Arlee met her husband Jimmy at KMMJ (Grand Island, NE), where they both worked as live radio entertainers in the '40s. She was known as "Arlene Wetherbee, the Girl From The Golden West". Jim and Arlee were married on August 30, 1944.

Arlee was a life-long Christian woman and served faithfully at the First Baptist Church in Plainfield. She loved singing in the Chancel Choir and had many church friends. She was also an accomplished wood carver. Arlee worked as a cashier for Marsh Supermarkets in Plainfield and retired in 1984.

Calling will be on Monday, June 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Plainfield. Funeral services will be in the church on Tuesday, June 5 at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens, Whitestown, IN. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her honor to Plainfield First Baptist Church "Memory Garden" Fund.
